Luanne will Call alternate Tuesdays 1:00 Eastern beginning October 27th
Tuesday, October 27th, 1:00 PM EDT
Luanne Stiles (Asheville, NC) I discovered traditional dance in the early 2000s upon spotting an advertisement in the local Amherst Massachusetts newspaper for a Monday night English Country Dance. I thought - no experience needed, no partner needed, all dances taught - that’s me! My love of the variety of dance tempos, amazing musicians, thoughtful teaching and a generous community had me immediately hooked. I have danced extensively in communities and at camps throughout the Northeast and Southeast as well as California, Ohio, Illinois, and Canada. While in Massachusetts I helped organize ECD dance events and, after moving to the Carolinas, my husband John Lam and I led a biweekly ECD in South Carolina. That is where I first started to learn about calling. After transitioning to Asheville two years ago, I joined Ashegrove Garland and continued calling for the Old Farmer’s Ball Advanced English Country Dance and occasionally at the bimonthly Asheville ECD. This past spring, I joined the CDSS Board and love being involved in an organization that supports the traditional song and dance that has given so much to me.
My goal for a Zoom dance event is to adapt each dance just enough so to provide a variety of experiences that are fun, expressive and fill the heart both to old favorites and explore dances that may be new to you. The dances are adapted just enough to make them work well for one or two people, while maintaining the feel and integrity of the original choreographer. I am looking forward to dancing with you!
