Janet Shepherd is a veteran of over 30 years calling primarily contras and squares. She was bitten by the contra bug when fresh out of college and began calling shortly after moving to Atlanta in 1990. She has been a mainstay there ever since, with the Chattahoochee Contra Dancers. She has delighted dancers throughout the Eastern US, and frequently farther afield. She loves using both dance and song to draw people into community, and her Sunday Singings have long been a joyful feature of many a dance weekend.
Janet has been active as a dancer with ECDA (English Country Dance Atlanta) for many years, and as a volunteer for the group’s Fandango! weekends. It has only been more recently, since pandemic times, that her love for English dancing has led her to widen her calling sphere and delve into that repertoire. She is relishing the challenge! In December 2024, she will be featured calling English for Winter Dance Week at the John C Campbell Folk School.
For virtual dancing, Janet calls frequently for the All Hands In online community and is thankful for the connections that it continues to foster.
